Kiwanis International started in 1915 and the Southwest District was established in 1918 after the clubs in El Paso, Texas, Phoenix, Arizona, and Albuquerque, New Mexico were formed. Ninety-nine years later, the Southwest District remains active with 16 divisions and 100 clubs in Arizona, New Mexico, and El Paso, County, Texas.
Kiwanis is an outstanding service organization dedicated to making the world a better place for the children. By working together we truly can make a difference in the lives of children within the Southwest District and worldwide.
If you would like to take a closer look at Kiwanis or visit a club to help on a service project, simply go to the "About Us" section in the menu on the left side of the page. Click on "Contact Us" and we will contact you with information on clubs in your area.
Message from the District Governor
Michael & Melody Iafrato
Fellow Southwest Kiwanians,
As many of you know SWD First Lady Melody and I have recently taken steps to change our lives and to become healthier. I am looking forward to the hike we have planned in November. We invite you to join us on a hike with President Jane.
I’ve learned the tasks which come my way as serving as your Governor are wide and varied but one has remained constant, motivation. I feel the actual title of ‘District Governor’ should be changed to ‘CMO’ ‘Chief Motivational Officer’. It is my primary task to motivate you, the great members of the Southwest District. To motivate you to implement the I-Plan, Inspiration, Impact, Image and Investment. They all work together and each builds upon the other. Why? #KidsNeedKiwanis
I ask you, “Can you give one extra dollar every month to either the International, District or the Local Foundation? Can you donate one more hour a month to help a child? Can you bring in one member this year to the Club? Why? #KidsNeedKiwanis!” Can you?
We hope to see you at the District Convention in Tempe, AZ. August 3-6.
Michael & Melody
What if you could save a baby's life?
With The Eliminate Project, you can. Maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) kills one baby every nine minutes. But three doses of a 60-cent vaccine can protect mothers and babies. Kiwanis and UNICEF have joined forces to bring this vaccine to 38 countries, eliminating MNT from the face of the Earth. What can you do right now? Learn about MNT and advocate for the cause. Participate in our fundraisers. Over the next few years, the work we do will change the world. Find out more at www.TheEliminateProject.org.
